Make your student return work for you

Even if you earned little, filing as a student matters: tuition credits can reduce tax now or carry forward, unused amounts can transfer to a parent or spouse, and filing unlocks the GST/HST credit and other benefits. We make sure none of it is missed.

Questions, answered

Should I file taxes as a student even with little income?

Yes. Filing captures tuition credits, builds carry-forward room, and qualifies you for the GST/HST credit and other benefits — often resulting in money back.

What is a T2202?

The T2202 is the tuition and enrollment certificate from your school, showing eligible tuition you can claim.

Can my parents use my tuition credits?

If you don't need the full amount to reduce your own tax, a portion can be transferred to a parent, grandparent, or spouse, or carried forward to your future returns.

Can I claim student loan interest?

Interest paid on qualifying government student loans is eligible for a credit. We make sure it's claimed.

Can I claim moving expenses for school?

If you moved at least 40 km closer to attend post-secondary full-time, certain moving expenses may be deductible — but for students they can only be claimed against taxable scholarship, bursary, or research-grant income, or employment income earned at the new location. We'll check whether you have income the expenses can offset.
